With a growing economy and a wealth of natural beauty, Arkansas is quickly leaving behind its reputation as an agricultural, rural state – becoming a destination for transplants and a home to be proud of for locals. Known as The Natural State, Arkansas has extensive green space, hiking, lakes, rivers and other outdoor offerings that make it ideal for those who enjoy nature. The state also has its fair share of culture, with numerous country music and Bluegrass festivals. Several Fortune 500 companies call the state home, the most famous of which is Walmart. Walmart is headquartered in Arkansas, and remains the largest retailer in the world.

Although living in Arkansas can be peaceful, with a more laid back culture and plenty of friendly faces, many residents still face considerable challenges in their day to day lives. The state’s rate of drug and alcohol abuse is higher than many states, with Arkansas ranking in the top ten for drug use other than marijuana. Meth labs are prolific in Arkansas, and the drugs they produce bring a considerable amount of hardship to local communities.

Drug and alcohol addiction hurts people from all walks of life in Arkansas, from people struggling with poverty to the highest levels of the corporate elite and the wealthy. No matter the income, the background or the social circle, when addiction takes over it hurts everyone close to the individual – friends, family, co-workers, customers, clients and more. The damage done can be considerable. Fortunately, no matter how bad things get, it is still possible to find help, recover and go on to lead a better life.
